Bio Born in the mid 1980s, Adrian Delgado has always kept away from conformity; he lived and continues to live a life free of rules and lines. Although he was ridiculed for it, he spent his elementary years drawing for countless hours throughout the day and fantasizing about his dream of becoming an artist one day. Elementary school was especially difficult for Adrian because he was placed in special education classes, and consequently was bullied and humiliated by his peers. Ironically, the rough edges of social life, however, filled his heart with passion and carved a talent for his powerful gift for art. Adrian’s childhood can be depicted in many of his paintings and they cast a powerful emotional message to viewers. Life for Adrian began to take its turn in High School. Finally freed from special classes, Adrian was able to make new friends and began to artistically observe a new social life. It was in high school where Adrian took his first classes in art and began to explore and deepen his journey to become an artist; what was once a dream was slowly becoming a reality. On the eve of graduating high school, Adrian made one of the hardest decision and commitment of his life – to pursue a career and life of art. Nothing and no one could possibly hold him back. Soon after high school, Adrian picked up a small job at a local store and began his journey in community college. When his past began to haunt him, he cleansed his thoughts with the pouring of alcohol and began to hide beneath the bottles of liquor. After years of booze and a few waist sizes later, he was hit with a moment of clarity – and it hit him hard, like a brick to the face. From that painful but enlightening moment on, Adrian began to change his life around and manifest his gift – art. His free time was filled with tubes of paint and new art experiments. He spent his summers traveling to Mexico and translating his observations into work of art. Adrian had a few of his paintings and other works of art held in small art galleries, but they did not seem to get the attention he and his admirers believed they deserved. Today, Adrian is an artist. But the truth is he has always been one. Adrian’s inspiration stems from the beauty that embodies the world. The natural art of the world is just one of his inspirations; Adrian is also inspired from the art of the post-impressionists, the surrealists, the baroque, and the classicalists. A few of his favorite artists are Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dali, and Vincent Van Gogh. Adrian calls his art poetry, and he believes he is a window-maker to enable viewers to see the reality we all typically and effortlessly dismiss. Adrian calls himself an outsider; indeed, he will never succumb the insider way of life, that is, he chooses to draw outside of the lines. He has a large group of loving and supportive friends, and a devoted family that believes in him. His attitude about life is free-spirited and positive. Perhaps his love life wouldn’t get the same admiration as his paintings, but his paintings seem to suffice, for there is always art. He loves each and every one of his paintings, his family, and his pets (especially the lazy cat named Salem); after all, he was raised in a miniature-style ranch. Adrian is also quite the romantic. Once, while dating a young woman, he decided not to buy her roses (again, living outside the box and refusing to be normal). Instead, he painted her roses. When he found the painting in the garbage, Adrian ended the relationship and sealed it with a painting of a dead rose – humorous and creative. His art, family, and friends came first, everyone one else simply had to accept that. Currently, Adrian’s path is beginning to shine brighter every day. He will soon begin attending the California College of the Arts. His major will be Painting and Drawing. Adrian believes one can never stop learning. He enjoys being part of art, helping the community, and he is no longer afraid to throw himself out to the world; screaming with a voice of passion and joy for all to hear. It will be both interesting and exciting to watch what derives from these new and upcoming experiences. But until then and forever more, there is love, there is life, and there is art for Adrian Delgado. |
