11601 Em En El Grove Road Leesburg, FL 34788-7735 (352) 669-0013 Email: c.worby@mfire.com “Art is all encompassing - encapsulating a variety of genres, from Carney to Garfunkel.” She was born with crayon in hand; paintbrush stuck behind her ear and a great love for nature and living creatures. Her artistic gift became apparent while making homemade cards for family and friends and later, after joining an art club, during grade school. As a teen, she drew a pirate from a matchbook cover and was accepted at Art Instruction, Inc., in Minn., MN, where she took a brief correspondence art course. Majoring in Art and minoring in Education, while at Miami Dade Jr. College in Miami, FL, she completed her BA degree in Art Education at the University of South Florida in 1972. Marriage, a son, and a job at Lewis Art Gallery in St. Petersburg, FL followed. After which, Jack Eckerd Corp. (a chain of drug stores), headquartered in Clearwater, FL, hired her to work in their graphics department. Here she learned layout, paste-up, typesetting and camera work preparing newspapers ads. Graphic arts opened a new world for her and allowed her to work at other companies such as graphic arts agencies and small newspapers throughout her career. While living in Albuquerque, NM, she took a teaching position at a private school for a year teaching art and other subjects. This was truly a memorable and enjoyable experience for her. All the while being a mother, wife and breadwinner, her artistic side was creating artwork. It was influenced by everything around her, especially her great love of animals and nature. There is really no specific style, except a kind of moody realism – sometimes bold undefined brushstrokes of loud color or a deliberate accuracy of detailed color and form. Most images (a majority being animals or nature) are easily discernable but may be sometimes drawn or painted on unusual materials, i.e., fabric bags or wood paneling. Being a somewhat shy, modest person by nature, Carol did not seek the limelight to promote her artwork. She did however; manage to show some pieces in shopping center malls in Florida; At First Glance Gallery in Leesburg, FL and the Lake County Fair, Eustis, FL (where she won 3 First Place ribbons). Throughout the years, she has sold and/or given away some of her artwork. |
