Profile
| Archetypes...Myths...Rituals. In my sculptures, both figurative and abstract, I employ my fascination with these concepts to evoke an emotional state within the viewer.
In my figurative work, my goal is to capture the ever changing state of the human condition through subtle changes in facial expression and body language. My abstract sculptures are divided into two series, “Artifacts From a Former World” and “Landscapes”. The sculptures in both series are made of abstract forms covered with rich, textural surfaces. This combination results in a complex organic piece that evokes a sense of ancient artifacts, of ritualistic objects from an unknown culture, or of imagined landscapes. However, be it figurative or abstract, my ultimate goal is to have the viewer feel both an emotional and a sensory familiarity with the work. I believe this feeling of déjà vu arises from both the collective unconscious and a mystical center we all share. |

- Burning Sun
- Description: In its death throe, a sun burns out over a decaying world. Yet, a small green organic form gives hope for renewal and continued survival. The main body of the sculpture is of highly polished cement coated with an acid stain and waxed to a deep luster. Bronze leaf, copper, and wood constitute the other materials used.
- Totemic Object
- Description: A once powerful and erect totem now lies fallen against a rock outcropping. What has once been worshipped and provided strength to a former world is now a meaningless relic to the observer. It is made of acid stained cement, copper, natural stone, and wood.
- Emerging Island
- Description: "Emerging Island" is from a series of abstract sculptural landscapes on which I've been working for the past five years. A divided and barren island emerges from a sea that is itself in decay. The main body of the piece is composed of cement that has been acid stained and covered with bronze leaf. Other materials consist of copper, wood, and a Japanese maple branch.
