Profile:

I use the collage method for the composition of my paintings. I look to many sources, old and new, to create a contemporary blend of images. The composition is then reworked into a final drawing which is used as a model for the painting. I think of these layered paintings as a metaphor for the modern world, where we understand that some level everything is connected to everything else. The paintings are in the end a collection of both recent and early recollections; these fragments of thought are a depiction of a world that can be idyllic and frighting, banal and mysterious all at the same time, and above all, ever changing. What I'm seeking to do is keep two contradictory forces in play, and pushing them to the point where they might fall apart. Those forces are material realization(conception, planning, structure, and knowing what I want the painting to do) and freedom(improvisation, happenstance, emotional expectations). I try to put the painting at a point where those two forces conjoin. I have a degree in Sculpture from the University of California. I have shown extensively in art galleries both commerical and non profit, art centers, unversity galleries, and museums in the United States , Europe, and Japan with twenty-four solo shows and over a hundred and seventy group shows. My work has been in art festivals and open studios, and I have done print and TV interviews, artist panels, discussions and have been a judge for competitions. My work can be found in many private and public collections.
