Profile
| I try, as a member of the global community, to resolve and bring into focus the dynamic complexities I see around me every day. As an artist I involve the viewer of my work in such a way as to make manifest that dynamism and complexity and to render it, through my art, more comprehensible.
So much around us is horrible, and so much around us is miraculous. Creating art that balances the horror of the human condition with the miracle that is life, and showing a final equilibrium between those poles, is a goal that I strive for. Much of the creation of my sculptural work involves processes that are very representative of this duality. A mold is created and metal is melted. Hammer blows destroy the mold, but from this destruction the new casting emerges. The process swings from destruction to creation, and the new reality trapped within the mold, as it was trapped in my mind, is revealed. With my interactive works, I strive to keep art relevant to myself and the viewer by having the viewer become a participant in an ongoing event. This incorporation of time, this ongoing event, I call Temporal Sequencing. I want my art to evolve over time and display that evolution. Through honest and objective appraisal of my work, I refine my perspective of the dynamic and complex world we live in. I now express the light and shadow of the reality I perceive with my creativity and the media I have at hand. |
