Profile
| Born and raised in the Panhandle of Texas, Micheal moved to Round Rock in 1988. He has a BFA in Graphic Design and an Interior Decorating Diploma. From 1986-1988, Micheal attended West Texas A&M where he pursued graduate studies toward a MFA in Fine Art and a minor in Art History. Hammons also attended Austin Community College where he majored in Interactive Design Specialization or Web Design.
Full of vibrant color and striking depth, Hammons’ art captures the special hues hiding just beneath the surface. Micheal unearths the purples and reds in a morning sunrise over Palo Duro Canyon; the vast spectrum of color in a moon drenched orchard on a clear starry night; the vibrant greens and yellows of a birch-filled forest just before Fall. His most popular style is his spiritual series which he truly enjoys doing and is widely collected by many throughout this region. Whether it be abstract, illustration, plein-aire or realism, Hammons’ work is distinctive and full of detail with a great deal of passion and energy residing in each piece. An award-winning visual artist, Micheal is equally at home with watercolor, acrylic and oil. His favorite subjects are landscapes, urbanscapes architectural concepts and realism. When asked why he utilizes many styles and techniques, Micheal states his philosophy is that growing as a visual artist is a never-ending process. Unlike many artists whose work is easily recognizable, Hammons does not want to be stereotyped into a certain subject matter or media. He believes that, as a professional artist, it is exciting and educating to experiment with different creative processes, otherwise, an artist will never grow and the work will become dull and uninspired. Hammons is the President of Art Center of Williamson County where he also teaches art classes. He also teaches Outdoor Landscape Painting Workshops. He is a member of Critique Circle, Williamson County Art Guild, Austin Plein Air and Austin Visual Arts Association. Hammons has a studio in his home which he shares with his wife, Linda, and their three dogs. In his spare time, Micheal enjoys sculpting, home remodeling, swimming, bicycling, and motorcycling. He also freelance as a Graphic Designer. His work is currently on display at Ministering Physicians - Round Rock, Texas; and Texas State University, Round Rock, Texas. |
