| Artist Statement
I use art, public projects and poetry to increase the awareness of the “self” and to co-create more understanding and tolerance among people around the world. My artworks radiate energy, light and the ever-changing but constant movement of life. The current work consists of reverse acrylic paintings on Plexiglas and sculptural three-dimensional painted pieces. These images express the force and power of feelings that arise from within. At the same time, they also capture the pulsating vivacity of the universe. The circle paintings show the emotional human dance around the ultimate middle—emerging outward from a dot that represents the point of silence and all beginnings. I use various color combinations and movement to emit an energy that travels from the painting to the eye of the viewer, penetrating into their deeper “self.” In 2009, I launched the-green-heart project to widen the human circle through public art. My vision to unite people with the question: What is in your heart?–The world is listening has been transformed into an interactive art installation that has been successfully exhibited throughout Southern California. Thousands of people responded to this question by creating something to post on my art piece. This project opens new lines of communication, is community building and generates the feeling of connectedness. The project will be installed in Galiara from November 2011 through the end of February 2012. |
