Profile
| I create symbolic artworks that describe themes of human consciousness using high-end 3D software. My work is an expression of my own personal growth. My hope is that people can see themselves and their own stories in the symbols I use. I strive to create artworks that are colorful, organic, and richly textured. I attempt to avoid the plastic and sterile look of most computer art.
My artwork is created using Maya® software. This is the same software used in the Lord of the Rings movies. The objects are sculpted in 3-dimensional space. Then lights and textures are added to the scene. Lastly, a snapshot of the scene is taken from a positioned camera. The final image is not retouched in any image-editing program, but is rendered directly from the Maya® program. The digital output is then printed using a Canon iPF9000 inkjet printer that uses twelve colors of pigmented inks. |

- Personal Growth
- Description: The sun represents God or fulfillment. It is the destination toward which many of us are reaching. The plant represents a person's life. The leaves are reaching toward the sun, representing emotional, intellectual, and spiritual growth. The intertwined leaves indicate integration -- the weaving together of the various aspects of a person's life and psyche. The two plants represent duality: the emotional-intuitive and logical-intellectual halves of a person. Maturity brings the two halves together as equals. The flowers represent the by-product of growth the fruit of maturity, which is a well-developed character that can be enjoyed by others. The circular root structure represents wholeness and completeness. It is also a person's center. The intertwined root within the circle denotes the sacred and mysterious complexity that makes us unique. The roots represent the interior and hidden life of a person, whereas the leaves represent the exterior and public life of a person. The roots extend out into the soil indicating depth of character and inner strength.
- Transformation
- Description: Transformation is when a person radically changes into a new person, unrecognizable from the old self. This image is my attempt to describe this transformation. The skeleton represents the old self, the pre-transformed soul, as it undergoes a personal death of old beliefs and behaviors. The skeleton is in a posture of surrender as it yields to the process of transformation. The red thorns represent suffering, which is the catalyst for transformation. People only change when circumstances require them to change. Suffering often brings about deep internal change as it forces a shift in priorities and meaning. The butterfly symbolizes the transformed self. It also expresses the beauty of the transformed life. The caterpillar and butterfly both convey the idea of metamorphosis, as a process of transforming change from one simple creature to a completely different creature, whose beauty exceeds that of the former.
- Maturity
- Description: Maturity is growth and wisdom that is the result of learning from the experiences of life. The soil has a patterned grid that represents the totality of life’s experiences. This pattern is intended to be the fabric of one’s life -- the weaving together of all thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Out of this fabric of life, maturity grows, as represented by the stylized tree. The tree is nourished by the soil of experience and produces wisdom, which is symbolized by the colorful sphere. Each colored swirl in the sphere represents a key experience that was instrumental in creating character and teaching wisdom. Our most memorable experiences and our responses to them make us who we are. The swirls in the sphere denote the taijitu symbol, which represents the complementary principles of yin and yang. The blending of experiences, both good and bad, create completeness. Wholeness of life requires experiencing both joy and pain. We grow and learn from both joyful and painful experiences.
