- Transformation
- Author: Rick Hocker
- Description: Transformation is when a person radically changes into a new person, unrecognizable from the old self. This image is my attempt to describe this transformation. The skeleton represents the old self, the pre-transformed soul, as it undergoes a personal death of old beliefs and behaviors. The skeleton is in a posture of surrender as it yields to the process of transformation. The red thorns represent suffering, which is the catalyst for transformation. People only change when circumstances require them to change. Suffering often brings about deep internal change as it forces a shift in priorities and meaning. The butterfly symbolizes the transformed self. It also expresses the beauty of the transformed life. The caterpillar and butterfly both convey the idea of metamorphosis, as a process of transforming change from one simple creature to a completely different creature, whose beauty exceeds that of the former.
